Canadian Film Centre Presents CFC BLOCKO! Doc Series In Conversation with Black Alumni

“Now, more than ever, community is key, Black leadership is critical, and our story will only be told by empowering Black creators for generations to come.”

Toronto Film School is a proud industry sponsor of CFC BLOCKO! – the Canadian Film Centre and Canesugar Mediaworks’ newly launched seven-part series and call-to-action piece from acclaimed creator Charles Officer.

Billed as an intimate discussion with Black CFC alumni “who span generations, but share a common language – speaking truth to power,” the short documentary series features personal, 10-minute conversations with creators including Clement Virgo, Lea Marin, Shernold Edwards, Joan Jenkinson, Dawn Wilkinson, and Cara Ricketts.

As CFC BLOCKO!’s creator, Officer said he envisions the series as a “moment in time” anthology of the important issues facing the Black creative community around inclusion and equity.

“Change is not easy. But how do we know where we’re going if we don’t recognize where we’ve been? This intimate doc series starts at the beginning, over 30 years ago, with cinema icon Mr. Norman Jewison and his vision to create the CFC,” he said.

“As an agent for change, his body of work has had a profound impact on Black representation in the screen industry.”

New episodes of CFC BLOCKO! begin premiering on CFC’s YouTube channel on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 4 p.m. (EDT) and will run every Wednesday until the final episode featuring acclaimed filmmaker and CFC Founder Norman Jewison on Nov. 25.
