The Film Student TV – The Draft

In episode 1 of The Film Student Season 5, Ho Anderson’s pitch “The Draft” got the greenlight from the Toronto Film School‘s panel of judges. Follow the journey Ho and his team took to filming this period story about a man who was drafted for the Vietnam War.

Given a limited budget, “The Draft” team was tasked with achieving a 70’s look and they paid close attention to small details like clothing, hair, accessories and furnishings in order to make the set convincing to the viewer. Thanks to Greyhound Canada, they were able to film at the smaller bus terminal on Bay St. which lended to the look of that era.

Ho Anderson is a Toronto Film School mature student, and enrolled in Film Production after realizing there’s no better time than the present to follow his dreams of getting into film. Ho is also a comics artist and writer. Ho has amassed a following of his work which includes a graphic novel series on Martin Luther King Jr. Perhaps it is his experience in narration from comic books which lead him to take a few interesting film production risks which you will pick up on in “The Draft”.

Ho competed against Ali Akbar’s pitch “From Shabnam to Ali” which was a modern-day love story between two terrorists. Even though “From Shamnam to Ali” was not chosen by the judges, student Ali Akbar was able to produce his film and it is currently in the approval process for a film festival!
